Five weeks ago, she was on the edge of death.

As she lay on the grass, looking into the deepening evening sky her thoughts were of her family. Of her little baby who needed a mother.

It was hard to breathe. She couldn’t seem to get enough air.

She didn’t know her lungs were collapsed.

She remembered the accident. The crash of two vehicles in an intersection as she was about to cross the road. One careening into her, knocking her back. The other coming up onto the sidewalk, running her over. Crushing her.

The wailing sirens of the emergency vehicles reached her ears and she prayed.

She prayed that she could still be a mother. That she could live. That she could give.

-------

I sent out a plea that next morning after a night of emergency procedures. They had stabilized her enough for surgery and I asked for prayers. I didn’t know what else to do at the time.

I had no idea - I couldn’t imagine - what would happen next.

One person shared Clarice’s story, then another, then another. Prayers started pouring in. At first from our own community, then from around the world.

The story was shared in every nation. Over 36 million people have seen it so far.

And all that light. All those good thoughts, all that faith came pouring in and connected us.

It filled her body and Clarice began healing so fast it made people weep.

She asked me to continue to share so that other people would be kept safe.

Slow down in your vehicle. It’s a weapon.

Pay attention.

Drive sober.

Drive calm.

Don’t text, don’t call.

Save your life and the life of a mother, a child, an innocent.

Live your life free from the guilt of hurting another person. These accidents are 100 percent preventable.

-------

The time at the hospital has been amazing for us. Not only have we been changed, but as Clarice heals we are seeing others heal. Around us and around the world.

We sent out a call for prayer, for unity, for love.

You responded.

On June 21, 2012 you started something. You set something profound in motion.

Whether you realize it or not, you changed the world.

Oh, maybe you won’t see it today, or tomorrow, but you will see it.

When tens of thousands of people around the world simultaneously ask, hope and pray for something good, it will happen.

When you ask in faith, you bet it will happen.

Like a snowflake that starts a mighty avalanche, your prayers began a tidal shift. Keep praying, keep laughing, keep doing good and you will see it. Let others mock, let them doubt. It’s not their fault. They were born into a world in decline. A world where people act out of fear and greed and ignorance.

Our children’s children will be born into a world of hope, love, hard work and intent. They will be born into the good world we make for them today.

You have a purpose. It’s the biggest purpose you can imagine. Honor what the Creator has given you, whatever you perceive that Creative Power to be. Honor every creation. Honor yourself, love yourself and love and honor everyone.

Anyone who makes you angry is lost. Honor them. Love them.

Anyone who hurts you is hurting themselves. And has been hurt. Heal that with love. Remove yourself from that situation, but don’t bring the sickness with you. Heal yourself with love and then more love. It’s the only way.

Anyone who would put you down is frightened. Stand tall. You are not to be feared, but respected. You are a shining light. Show the way.

You are the miracle the world has been waiting for. Like the snowflake, you are small. But you can cause the world the change.

That’s your power. And everyone else’s.

Use it wisely.

-------

You have been our miracle. You have changed our lives. We will live our lives in gratitude and we are couldn’t be more humbled by it.

We are transformed.

We faced the storm. We faced the lightning. You were our strength.

I pray we can all be each other’s strength. That we all lift each other, praise each other, give thanks for another.

I pray that we praise the Divine.

We are made of dust and water and we will return to our Mother Earth again. She will welcome us.

And what of our spirit? What of our soul?

Will we go to our rest with confidence? Will we leave more love behind than we found? Will we be prepared for that undiscovered country that awaits, the tears of joy and well wishes of our friends urging us along?

Will we have fulfilled our purpose here, which is to bless every life we encounter? Protect those who can’t protect themselves? Protect our Mother Earth and give strength to those around us?

Will we have finally made the choice to throw our backs into the work to be done to create a future for those yet unborn?

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

-------

Five weeks ago I was faced with losing my wife.

Today, she will be walking out of the hospital on my arm.

Today, Clarice is coming home.

Never say no in day to day dealings. Always look for the way to yes. This will create an unexpected and profound change in your life.

For example, "Mom, can I have candy for breakfast?"

"Yes, but not today."

:)

Try it out this week. See how many times you can say yes instead of no. You will have to get creative, but I I know you can do it!

-----

Clarice is saying yes a lot more to things. One thing in particular: She is saying yes to life.

She is a cautious one, Clarice. She likes to make sure everyone is safe and taken care of. She watches the budget, she makes sure you eat and she recycles.

She can make a dollar go farther than anyone I've ever seen except maybe for my mom.

In all of that, there are a few things we have been putting off, saying to each other, "Maybe next year."

Well, maybe this year, instead. We are learning to say yes.

-----

I watched as one of her wonderful nurses, Colleen, cleaned the wounds on her left hand. I noted how quickly they are healing up. In a few places there are chunks of flesh missing that will scar a little, but on the whole it looks very good.

There are still pins sticking out and they will be there for some time yet.

But she is breathing easier and is gaining some independence.

So much so that she was home for the weekend!

What a pleasure it was to help her, to watch over her, to clean her and care for her. How joyful to watch her speak to our little one and to have our teenage twins jump to assist every chance they got!

And how quiet she was when we put Liam to bed and she was able to give him a soft kiss on the cheek.

To have these things, to have each other is the miracle of our lives.

Sure, there are challenges. Of course there will be pain and stress and trials.

That's what we call life.

But living...that's what we call everything else. That's what we call love.

Love each other, love your fellow being, love the little plants, the animals, the great oceans and the mighty mountains.

Love the soft clouds and the stormy rains. Love your connection to all life and to the divine.

Love all these things and you will know what it means to live.

I wish you that.

Say yes to that.

Hiy hiy.
